Company of Wolves (1984)
Werewolf Wednesday #4 : this week we watched Company of Wolves (1984)! British gothic fairy tale fantasy horror, aesthetically feels like if Kate Bush and John Carpenter made a werewolf film together.
Visually very gorgeous, there is something beautiful and confusing happening on-screen every few minutes- I love the juxtaposition of intense The Thing-esque body horror werewolf transformation scenes but that the overall aesthetic stayed feeling beautiful and dreamy.
Story-wise it’s only ok, it’s a bunch of vignettes that use heavy fairy tale metaphors to play up the idea of how female sexuality brings out “the beast” in men, and the story falls back on a “~*~its all just a dream so it doesn’t have to fully make sense~*~” excuse to never have to dig too deep into a real substantial storyline, but we enjoyed ourselves from start to finish and it has a whole scene of German shepherds in Marie Antoinette wigs so 11/10 would recommend!!! (Scroll to the end to see 3 parts of a v good transformation scene!)
